Kusuri Potassium Permanganate: Powerful Treatment for Trichodina & Costia

Kusuri Potassium Permanganate is a popular and powerful chemical compound used extensively in koi keeping. Primarily, it is an excellent treatment for external parasites such as Trichodina and Costia, which can cause flashing and stress in your koi. Beyond treating parasitic infections, it acts as a strong general disinfectant for sterilizing nets, quarantine tanks, and other pond equipment.

Kusuri Potassium Permanganate Koi works by oxidizing organic matter in the water and on the parasites themselves, effectively eradicating them. The chemical will turn the pond water a vibrant purple color upon application. The length of time the water remains purple indicates the efficacy and is a key factor in successful treatment.

Application Guide and Critical Safety Warnings

Preparation and Dosing Instructions

1. Aerate Heavily: IMPORTANT: Potassium Permanganate chemically strips oxygen from the water. Always increase aeration significantly during treatment.
2. UV OFF: Switch off your UV sterilizer until the entire course of treatment is complete (the water is fully clear again).
3. Dissolve: Measure the correct dose of 6.8g per 4,546 litres (1,000 gallons). Dissolve the powder completely in a bucket of hot water and aerate the bucket for 20 minutes before adding to the pond.
4. Application: Slowly disperse the cooled solution evenly around the pond over a one-hour period.
5. Re-Dosing: The water will turn purple. Re-dose each time the water turns brown until you achieve a minimum of 12 to 15 hours of cumulative purple-colored water although we only recommend 4 Hours.

CRITICAL SAFETY WARNINGS

• DO NOT OVERDOSE: Overdosing can cause severe stress or fish fatalities. Measure your pond volume and the chemical dose accurately.
• Neutralization: If fish show signs of distress or if the water is above 18°C, use Kusuri Hydrogen Peroxide 6% to immediately neutralize the Potassium Permanganate and reoxygenate the water.
• DO NOT USE WITH SALT: Never use this product in conjunction with salt.
• Not Recommended for Flukes: If Gill Flukes are present, treat with Fluke S or Fluke M first, as Potassium Permanganate may stress the fish too much when flukes are present.
